IYSA FAQs

How do I register my child to play and pay for registration?

You can register each session (Fall, Winter 1, Winter 2, Spring and Summer Camp) right on our website.

We accept digital forms of payment on the website.

In order to use the manual/offline payment method, you must first contact iysatreasurer2019@gmail.com to agree upon a payment plan. Please note that your player will not be added to a team until payment has been received for that session.
What will my player need to wear?

*Please note that if your player is brand new to IYSA, when you register you will receive an email with a number assignment. Do not purchase uniform kit before you receive the number assignment.

Brand new IYSA players will receive a black practice jersey from IYSA. Each player will need to purchase a game uniform that consists of shorts, 2 jerseys (home and away) and soccer socks. This cost is about $100-$120 and can be purchased through the team store. They will also need outdoor soccer cleats for fall, spring and summer and indoor cleats (turf shoes) for winter sessions.

Fan wear can also be purchased at this same link.
How does IYSA communicate with my player and my family?

IYSA uses the TeamSnap app to communicate about schedules, practices and game changes. Families will also receive updates via email when TeamSnap event details change. Information about select team tournaments as well as invoices and other updates and notices will be sent via email.
Can I register my player for an age group different than their own?

Unfortunately players cannot be registered for age groups other than their own. IYSA operates under the same rules that are set for various soccer organizations across NY State. Players cannot play "down" in any league games or tournaments. IYSA and the governing agencies take this very seriously.
Players can play "up" an age group if they are asked to do so by IYSA coaches and caregivers are in agreement.
Families and players should always register their player according to birth year and not for any other factors such as scheduling, etc.
Does my player have to RSVP for games and practices?

Yes, we ask families and players to RSVP in advance for practices and games via TeamSnap. Please RSVP for games by Wednesday before a game so that coaches can confirm whether or not there are enough players. If we are short, coaches will begin reaching out to other IYSA teams of the same age to help field the team for the game.
We know that schedules are sometimes difficult to know for sure, so if you're uncertain your player can make it, mark "Maybe". The coach will follow up with you as the date gets closer and you can then change your RSVP when you know.
Will IYSA take photographs or video of my player? What will they use that for?

IYSA does sometimes take photographs and videos of teams. We use this media to promote IYSA membership and events and highlight team achievements on our website or in our newsletter. Coaches at the upper levels will sometimes use video to help review players' technique and field positioning, etc.
Whenever possible, we try to take team photos/videos so as not to highlight a single player. If we do plan to highlight a specific player for something, we will contact their family to ask permission first. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us.
What is an IYSA Select Team?

IYSA Select Teams are teams that are formed to compete in the Thruway League. IYSA holds try-outs in the fall to form these teams and they are often placed in tournaments and leagues with a higher level of competition. To learn more, please visit our Select Team Overview.
Will my player have the same practice schedule for each session that they sign up for? (Winter 1, Winter 2, Spring, etc.)

Although we work very hard to create a consistent schedule for each team in each individual session, we cannot guarantee that the schedule will remain unchanged from session to session.
What umbrella organization does IYSA operate under?

We operate under the New York State West Youth Soccer Association.
How should I communicate with my player's coach and the IYSA administration if I need to?

We encourage open and respectful communication between families and coaches as this helps a player's development immensely. If you or another caregiver are upset with a coach's decision, we ask that you wait until after a game or practice to address it and encourage caregivers to reach out to set up a call or a meeting with the coach rather than addressing it right away depending on the concern. We also encourage caregivers to wait 24 hours before speaking to a coach as this may give you and the coach both time to think about the best way to approach the interaction and work together to reach a positive outcome for your player. Please also see the player and parent handbook for additional information.
If you wish to speak to your player's coach, you can reach out via TeamSnap. If you need to reach out to someone in the IYSA administration you can email us at admin@ithacayouthsocceracademy.com or doc@ithacayouthsocceracademy.com

Please note that any calls to the club number will not be answered after 5pm as that is when practices and games are running. If you leave a message, please allow for 48 hours for a call back.
Does IYSA have any organizational policies that they operate under?

Yes! We have several resources that discuss the code of conduct, refund policy, and more.
What are common terms my new player might need to know?
